Convention and Exhibition Industries in Shenzhen and Hong Kong Enter New Era

        On November 26th, the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center held a roadshow in Hong Kong to promote closer integration, complementary advantages, and mutual support for the exhibition sectors in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and enhance the industry’s overall strength in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Over 120 representatives from the Hong Kong convention and exhibition industry and major media outlets attended the roadshow and together witnessed the opportunities for the development of the Shenzhen and Hong Kong industries presented by the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center, from where the new era begins. On behalf of all government departments, Mr. Zhida Liu, Deputy Secretary-General of Shenzhen Municipal Government and Executive Deputy General Director of Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center Construction Headquarters Office, Mr. Enping Zhu, Deputy Chief of Shenzhen's Bao'an District, and Mr. Xiaofang Yuan, Director of the Economic, Trade and Information Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, delivered speeches that introduced all aspects of the city's supportive policies, and invited representatives from the Hong Kong exhibition industry to grow their businesses in Shenzhen. On behalf of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Mr. Johnny Wan, Director of the Exhibitions Market Development of the Council, expressed congratulations for the construction of the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center and a strong faith in the integration of the exhibition industries in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Mr. Jun Ma, General Manager of Shenzhen Zhaohua International Exhibition Operation Co., Ltd., and Ms. Tracey Short, representative of SMG, gave an overview of the construction and operations of the new exhibition hall. The roadshow was hosted by Mr. Daben Mao, Executive Deputy General Manager of Shenzhen Zhaohua International Exhibition Operation Co., Ltd.

    Building a world-class convention and exhibition center and a city landmark with international influence.

    Mr. Zhida Liu, Deputy Secretary-General of Shenzhen Municipal Government and Executive Deputy General Director of Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center Construction Headquarters Office, said during the roadshow that Shenzhen’s government has always attached great importance to the development of the convention and exhibition industry and the construction of the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center. He also said the government had ensured a high level of planning and construction to build the project into a world-class convention and exhibition center and a city landmark with international influence. At present, the construction headquarters of the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center is carrying out the building work as planned. The indoor display area of Phase I covers 400,000 square meters, and after the completion of Phase II, the overall indoor display area will be 500,000 square meters, becoming the world's largest exhibition and convention center. The Center's construction headquarters will improve the surrounding traffic and business conditions as well as enhance surrounding hotels, offices and other supporting facilities, creating a conducive environment for the development of Shenzhen's exhibition industry.

    Meanwhile, the construction headquarters also welcomed representatives from Hong Kong's exhibition industry to visit the Center, and is eager to create close exchanges, learning opportunities and platforms to boost the development and prosperity of both the Shenzhen and Hong Kong exhibition industries.

What should Bao'an District expect with the opening of the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center? What kind of supporting policies will Bao'an District issue to assist the development of the exhibition industry in this area?

Mr. Enping Zhu, Deputy District Chief of Shenzhen Bao'an District, gave an overview of the history and economy of the area, as well as relevant policies that will support the development of the exhibition industry. He stated the significant role the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center will play in Bao'an District and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. According to the Shenzhen City Master Plan (2017-2035), Shenzhen Airport New Town where Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention is located will become the western city center of Shenzhen. To realize the goal of "10 billion exhibitions, 100 billion new cities, trillion Bao'an", Bao'an District has implemented the ‘Measures for Optimizing Business Environment in Bao’an District’, cultivated the exhibitions industry with improved facilities and the rational layout. By combining the existing features of Bao'an District, it has formulated a series of documents such as the ‘Measures for the Implementation of the Exhibition Industry Development in Bao'an District’ and ‘Supportive Funding Implementation Details for Exhibition Industry in Bao'an District’. Mr. Enping Zhu, Deputy District Chief, indicated that the world-class Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has emerged and the "9+2" urban agglomeration has begun, and yet again Bao'an District finds itself at the gateway of a new era. Bao'an District is presented with new opportunities for development provided by the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center, and it must be restructured to let the exhibition economy take root and bloom.

In addition, he also welcomed representatives from the Hong Kong exhibition industry to come to Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center in Bao'an and expressed hope that they will play an important role in the economic development of the area.

The new engine for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as China's exhibition industry grows bigger and stronger

Mr. Xiaofang Yuan, Director of the Economic, Trade and Information Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, indicated that, building the 500,000-square meter Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center is part of the strategic policy to further develop the exhibition industry promulgated by Shenzhen municipal government and the party committee. According to the high standards and requirements of the Shenzhen municipal government and party committee in their "pursuit of a world-leading position" and building "a word-class exhibition and convention center", the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center integrates world leading teams, design, and construction and operational concepts. It will be a major milestone in the history of the development of the Chinese exhibition industry, not only for providing a platform for the exhibition of domestic brands and world-class development, but also a new engine for the exhibition industry in Shenzhen, the Greater Bay Area and even the whole of China to grow bigger and stronger. At the same time, it will bring new opportunities for the development of Shenzhen and Hong Kong's exhibition industry and further promote exchanges, cooperation and prosperity between the two.

The Economic, Trade and Information Commission of Shenzhen Municipality as the host organization, will seize the opportunities presented by the implementation of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, integrate them with the new tends and requirements, solicit opinions from industry, and study and formulate policies to support and provide a better environment for the exhibition industry.

        Developing mutual benefits and win-win results for the Shenzhen and Hong Kong exhibition industries while promoting the prosperity of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

        Johnny Wan, Director of the Exhibitions Market Development of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, expressed his congratulations and hopes for the development of the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center. He said Shenzhen and Hong Kong have long shared very close economic ties and these have included the convention and exhibition sector. Against the background of the construction framework agreement signed by the National Development and Reform Commission and local governments, Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao will give full play to their respective advantages and together build a world-class bay area and urban agglomeration. The Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center will optimize advantages and play a significant role in developing mutual benefits and win-win results from economic and exhibition industrial cooperation between these two areas, as well as in the economic exchanges between the Greater Bay Area and the world.

Mr. Jun Ma, General Manager of Shenzhen Zhaohua International Exhibition Operation Co., Ltd., gave an overview of the exhibition hall as well as its advantages and construction progress. Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center Phase I began construction in September 2016 and will be fully completed and put into operation in July 2019.

Meanwhile, Ms. Tracey Short, Vice President of International Development at SMG, explained the preparations for operating the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center.

Representatives from the Hong Kong exhibition industry expressed their appreciation and congratulations on the scale, hardware advantages, management and construction progress of the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center. They also expressed confidence and look forward to the positive role that the Center will play in the development of the exhibition industry in Shenzhen and Hong Kong after its completion. The representatives agreed that the construction and operation of the Center will greatly deepen cooperation between the Shenzhen and Hong Kong convention and exhibition industries and drive them forward into a new era and a new round of prosperity.
